Community Child Care offers spaces in our home child care program to children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. We welcome full-fee paying families and those who receive fee assistance. Most of our placements are long-term, but we accommodate short-term requests whenever we can. When we have space in an appropriate home we are happy to enrol children with special needs. We encourage all families to apply through the city’s Child Care Registry and Wait List (CCRAW). Families who require fee subsidy must apply through CCRAW. If you need assistance with the wait list, contact us by e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org), through our website, by telephone (613-592-4636), or in person and we can help.
Your Child Care Advisor
A child care advisor is assigned to each family to assist you in making the best possible choice of child care provider. The initial part of that process is through close attention to the needs of your child and family.
The advisor tries to find the most appropriate place for a child, in one of our safe and stimulating early learning environments, and arranges introductory meetings for the family with providers who might meet the family’s needs. The advisor attends introductory meetings between child care providers and families to ensure all necessary information is exchanged and to answer any questions.
Parents are not obligated to accept a space. Your child care advisor will ask for feedback after each meeting to attempt to find a space with a provider that best meets your needs. By the same token, providers are not obligated to accept any child into their group if they feel they cannot meet a family’s needs.
Our home child care providers are carefully screened through interviews and home assessments. Providers are selected for their child care skills and their ability to organize experiences that support and encourage children’s development. They must have clear police records checks for the vulnerable sector, good references and Standard First Aid/CPR training. Our providers are skilled in using their home and neighbourhood for learning opportunities. Providers who accept a child with special needs receive appropriate information, coaching and training so they can offer an inclusive care environment. The child care advisor assigned to each provider offers support, professional development and on-going monitoring.
How to Apply
- Call Community Child Care at 613-592-4636 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to leave a telephone application.
- Submit an application online.
- Come to our office in the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre at 2 MacNeil Court, Kanata, K2L 4H7.
- Go on-line and apply through the City of Ottawa’s Child Care Registry and Wait List at www.ottawa.ca. Identify Community Child Care as the agency you would like to have care with and your information will appear on the Community Child Care waiting list.
The Agency encourages all families to register on the city’s waitlist to ensure that all appropriate programs will have access to your child’s information. Families requiring fee assistance (subsidy) from the City of Ottawa must register on the list and submit the required documents. The city determines whether or not you are eligible for fee assistance. Our spaces are available to all families regardless of how the fees are paid. Providers do not know how fees are paid unless the family chooses to disclose the information.
Fees are payable in advance on the first of every month. We accept e-transfers, cheques, cash, money orders and bank drafts. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept automatic withdrawals or credit card payments. Clients receiving fee subsidy make all payments directly to the City of Ottawa. The city in turn pays the agency.
As of February 1, 2018 our daily fees are:
- Full-day: $46.50
- Half day: $34.00
- School Day: $23.00
Long hours/special circumstances $5.00 per unit
Our fees are not age-related. The full day fee applies to infants, toddlers, pre-school children and school-aged children on PD days and other school holidays and covers a maximum of 10 hours of care, snacks and lunch. The half-day fee is used only for children in care either morning or afternoon and includes lunch and one snack. The school-day fee covers before and/or after school care to a maximum of 4 hours and includes a snack when appropriate.
