Community Child Care offers spaces in our home child care program to children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. We are happy to welcome full-fee paying families and those who receive fee assistance. Most of our placements are for long-term care, but we are happy to accommodate short-term requests when we can. When we have space in an appropriate home we are happy to enrol children with special needs. We encourage all families to apply through the city’s Child Care Registry and Wait List (CCRAW). Families who require fee subsidy must apply through CCRAW. If you need assistance with the wait list, contact us by e-mail, through our website, by telephone, or in person and we can help.
Your Child Care Advisor
A child care advisor is assigned to each family to assist you in making the best possible choice of child care provider. The initial part of that process is thorough and close attention to the needs of your child and family.
The advisor tries to find the most appropriate place for a child, in one of our safe and stimulating early learning environments, and arranges introductory meetings for the family with providers who might meet the family’s needs. The advisor attends introductory meetings between child care providers and families to ensure all necessary information is exchanged and to answer any questions.
Parents are not obligated to accept a space. Your child care advisor will ask for feedback after each meeting to attempt to find a space with a provider that best meets your needs. By the same token, providers are not obligated to accept any child into their group if they feel they cannot meet a family’s needs.
Our home child care providers are carefully screened through interviews and home assessments. Providers are selected for their child care skills and their ability to organize experiences that support and encourage children’s development. They must have clear police records checks for the vulnerable sector, good references and Standard First Aid/CPR training. Our providers are skilled in using their home and neighbourhood for learning opportunities. Providers who accept a child with special needs receive appropriate information, coaching and training. The child care advisor assigned to each provider offers support, professional development and on-going monitoring.
